Walter K. Stelzer, 83, of Tunkhannock passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 at home.
Born on November 30, 1940, in Manhattan, he is the son of the late Kurt and Gertrude (Kubale) Stelzer. He is preceded in death by his wife Osue (Shige) Stelzer; sister, Astrid Diamond; brother, Hans Stelzer.
Walter attended Tunkhannock High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force overseas for 6 years and continued his service in the Air Force Reserve for 24 years and retired as a Master Sergent. He was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Walter was employed at Procter and Gamble for 33 years. He loved to travel and learn about other cultures. He also enjoyed history, reading, movies, sports, and his church.
Walter was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tunkhannock, PA. where he served for many years.
Above all, Walter's greatest love was his family. He took great pride in being a supportive father and grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Donna Lowcher and husband Matt of North Carolina, Barry Stelzer and wife Lisa of New York, Donald Stelzer of Tunkhannock; grandchildren, Jessica Lowcher and husband Chris Hetem of New Zealand and their future son, Caroline Lowcher of North Carolina, Ashley Norris and husband Luke of North Carolina and their children, Sutton and Amelia.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
Family and friends are invited to attend Walter's funeral service which will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 5672 SR 6, Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Reverend John Zimmerman presiding. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
