Valerie Jean (Witkowski) Mullen, 83, of Tunkhannock passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Mullen.

Born on August 3, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Piorek) Witkowski.

She was a 1957 graduate of Immaculata High School. It was during her high school years that she met her husband, creating a love story that would last a lifetime.

Valerie dedicated many years of her life to the corporate world, serving at Royal Globe, Merrill Lynch, Fairleigh Dickinson, and eventually Bell Atlantic (which later became Verizon) for a total of 13 years before retiring in 2001. She was a trailblazer in the early days of cellphones, showcasing her innovative spirit and adaptability.

She took pride in tending to her lawn and delighted in preparing delicious Polish dishes. Her volunteer work at Nativity BVM church making pierogis and haluski showcased her selflessness and commitment to serving others.

Those who knew Valerie can attest to her warm and inviting personality. Her love for cookbooks and trying out new recipes highlighted her creative side and nurturing spirit. She will be remembered as the most loving and personable individual whose presence could light up any room.

Among Valerie's proudest accomplishments was being an active member of Nativity BVM, where she shared her time and talents generously. Her volunteer work at Tyler Memorial Hospital further exemplified her dedication to helping those in need. However, above all else, Valerie cherished her grandchildren who brought immense joy and love into her life.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Jean Mullen, Debbie Janof; son, Christopher Mullen and wife Eileen; grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Ryan Janof, Emily and Megan Bailey.

She is preceded in death by daughter, Josephine Mullen; sister, Lottie Pavlovich; brother, Stephen Witkowski.

Family and friends are invited to attend Valerie's Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:00 PM from the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 to be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Albert and Deacon Ray Pieretti. Interment will follow in Pieta Cemetery, Tunkhannock.

A viewing will be held Friday from 11:00AM until 12:30PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Valerie's memory to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
