Samuel L. Day
Samuel L. Day of Mehoopany died Saturday in the Golden Living Care Center in Tunkhannock. Prior to moving to Golden Living he had been the guest at the home of his daughters, for six years having spent the last two years with Jack and Beverly Simmers. He was born October 9, 1916 in Bridgewater Twp. Susquehanna Co. son of the late Judson and Blandine Butts Day.
Samuel lived most of his life in Mehoopany ,were he owned and operated a Dairy Farm for many years on Maynard Hill. He later owned Days Hardware store in Mehoopany and worked for several years at the Pink Apple Restaurant in Tunkhannock.
He was an avid bee keeper and enjoyed restoring horse drawn buggys and wagons at his Buggy Shop in Jenningsville. He was a member of the Jenningsville Methodist Church and a life time trustee.
Samuel was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Elizabeth Goodwin Day, daughter Beverly Simmers, infant grandson Michael Borgeson, infant great great granddaughter Gianna Marie Borgeson and son in law Edward Huffsmith.
Surviving is a son and daughter in law Robert and Eloise Day of Mehoopany, daughters and son in law Carole and Jim Borgeson of Tunkhannock, Joyce Huffsmith of Tunkhannock, son in law Jack Simmers of Mehoopany, Sister Elaine Billings of Pinellas, Fla., 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family, from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock with Pastor Joseph Billingsley of Mehoopany Baptist church and Tim Borgeson grandson of Samuel. Interment will be in Vaughn Cemetery, Mehoopany. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to FWM Fire Department, PO Box 182, Mehoopany, Pa. 18629 or to the Jenningsville United Methodist Church, Mehoopany, Pa. 18629.
