It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Russell N. Faux Sr. of Northmoreland Township on January 6, 2021 at age 86. Russell was born on April 9, 1934 on the family farm to Francis H. Faux and Blanche Coolbaugh Faux.
Russell attended the one-room school house at Fitch’s Corners before attending Tunkhannock Area High School. He worked on the farm until enrolling in the Army at age 20. He served mostly as a tank commander at Ft. Hood, Texas and throughout his life was always happy to tell stories of his time in the service. Russ went on to attend Millersville State College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education followed by a Master’s Degree in Education five years later. He taught at GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre before moving to Tunkhannock Area High School where he taught Industrial Arts for over 25 years. He was proud of his role as an educator in the vocational trades, and generations of students enjoyed his classes in metal, wood, photography, yearbook and electronics.
Russ built his own house on the family farm in 1964 and situated it on a hill so he could watch the brilliant sunrises over Northeast PA from the breakfast table. He was a wonderful husband and father. While he worked hard, he found time to play catch or to join in ice hockey games on the pond. He almost never missed one of his children’s sporting or school events and always provided loving support and guidance for their endeavors. We are certain that his corny expressions will be passed down through generations to come. He gave his time generously to the local community and coached little league, volunteered with the ambulance association, and attended Dymond Hollow United Methodist Church.
Russell was preceded in death by his sisters, Marion Faux and Thelma Firestine, and his brother, Donald Faux.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen, his daughter, Jeanette Siegel and Gary of Falls, his sons, Russell Faux Jr. and Karen of Bend, OR, and Greg Faux and Juan Carlos of Woodstock, VT; sister Alice Green and Barry of Falls; grandchildren Joshua Siegel, Jacob Siegel, Benjamin Siegel, Anna Rose Faux, and Elise Faux; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Northmoreland Township Volunteer Fire Company, 1618 Demunds Road, Dallas, 18612, or the Franklin and Northmoreland Township Ambulance Association, 329 Orange Road, Dallas, 18612.
