Rose Ann Zona of Maple St., Factoryville formerly of East Lemon died Thursday evening at her home with her daughters at her side after a courageous battle with âLou Gehrigâs Diseaseâ. She was born in Olyphant on February 2, 1931 daughter of the late Michael and Mary Hudak Sofranko.
She was a graduate of Olyphant High School and prior to her retirement she worked in several local factories. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock and attended Our Lady of the Abingtonâs in Dalton. She was a member of the Wyoming Valley Audubon Society, Wyoming County Senior Citizens Center and the Lunch Bunch Club of East Lemon.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Sekelsky in 1975 and her second husband, Steve Zona in 2000, sisters Teresa Sofranko, Mary Miglin and Ann Lucas, Brothers Francis, Steve, John, Joseph, George and Mike Sofranko. Surviving are daughters Mary Anne Antoine of Factoryville, Audrey Gozdiskowski and husband Mike of Tunkhannock, brother Paul Sofranko and wife Ceil of Owego, NY, sister Elizabeth Pastir and husband George of Olyphant, sisters-in-law Olga Sofranko of California and Penny Sofranko of Florida, grandchildren Stacy Antoine and fiancé Michael Drake, Heather Gozdiskowski, Christina Provini and husband Dominic, Leslie Ball and husband Richard, Michael Jr. and David Gozdiskowski and Robert Antoine Jr., two great grandchildren, Skyler Ball and Hugh Murphy III, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 10:30 am from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 West Tioga Street, Tunkhannock with mass of Christian burial at the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock at 11 am. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the residents of Matthewson Park Apartments, Heartland Hospice, the ALS Association and caregivers Debbie Disinger and Michelle Crissman and Marge Harvey for all the wonderful care that they provided their Mother and grandmother.
