Roberta L. Buzzerd, RN, formerly of Phoenixville and East Lemon, died Monday, November 21, 2011 in Ocala, FL surrounded by family. She was born in Philadelphia on November 17, 1938, daughter of the late Dr. Emrys W. and J. Frances Spare Andrews.
Roberta was a 1956 graduate of Phoenixville High School and received her RN degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy School of Nursing in 1959. She continued her education with a Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester University and her Masters from Penn State University. Prior to her retirement she worked as an Industrial Nurse for Phoenix Steel and a School Nurse Practitioner in Philadelphia.
While living in the Phoenixville area she served as President of the Phoenixville Board of Health. She was also a recipient of a Legion of Honor Award from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains for her selfless contribution to Girls Scouts of America (GSA). She established a troop of girl scouts with diverse needs who were overwhelmed by badge requirements. She rewrote the requirements to allow her âgirlsâ an opportunity to earn badges and had the new requirements approved by GSA at the national level. To honor her volunteer service with Girl Scouts of America, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Girl Scouts of Eastern PA, PO Box 309, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444-0309.
Roberta was preceded in death by her daughter Jenilyn L, grandchildren Thomas A, and Joshua R, and brother Richard L Andrews. Surviving are sons Robert N of Medford Lakes, NJ, Thomas A (Kris) of West Palm Beach, FL, grandchildren Eric T, Andrew R., Jonathan T, Jenilyn A, Brooke A, Jacquelyn L, Jamie F, Alicia L, Alyssa R, Lillian G and Evin T Blackwell. Surviving siblings include: George E. Andrews (Sandra), Frank W. Andrews (Nancy), Donald E. Andrews, Margaret J. Legutko (Sylvester), E. William Andrews, Marlene F. Seyler (Byron), adopted sister, Grace Wu (John), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 10 am at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock with Pastor Murray Brindle, Pastor of St. Paulâs Lutheran Church presiding. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 2 to 4 pm. Interment will be in North Chinchilla Cemetery.
