Ottie Elizabeth Goodwin, 88, of Forkston, died Sunday morning at the Golden Living Facility in Tunkhannock.
Born Dec. 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Maude Lamback Fassett.
She was a graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School class of 1939. She went on to Beauty School and was a beautician for most of her life; having her shop in her home. She joined the Forkston Grange in 1936 and was a member for 74 years; also serving as a lecture. She was a member of the Forkston United Methodist Church, the Cemetery Organization, Mehoopany Womenâs Club, the United Methodist Women, and the Community Club. She was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years; as well as the Forkston Township Assessor. She enjoyed keeping up on the local gossip/news and wrote the Forkston News column for the New Age for many years. She loved helping others and supporting her community; and she did so by making ugly quilts and making hundreds of dishes for the local dinners. Ottie will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend. Ottie loved to play games and was always up for some Chicken Foot. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the Golden Living staff for the wonderful care and compassion they showed Ottie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Goodwin; whom she loved and cared for until his death in July of 2000; and a great granddaughter, Megan Vermeulen in February 2010.
Surviving are daughters Patricia Vermeulen and husband Ronald of Lovelton, Ferne Aitken and husband Donald of Forkston; sister Mildred Giberson of Tunkhannock; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
