Nancy B. Gavek, 74, of Lake Carey, passed away Sunday January 2, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born February 8, 1947, in Springville, PA, the daughter of the late Malcolm Button and Louise Brotzman. Nancy was a 1965 graduate of Elk Lake High School. After high school she married the love of her life, Don Gavek. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on July 23. Together they had two children Timothy and Lisa.
Nancy was employed by Tyler Memorial Hospital for over 40 years as the business office manager and then spent 15 years as the office manager at Tunkhannock Monument Company. She was the Senior Regent of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge #1276, and an active member of the Retirees of Tyler. In the past she was involved with volunteering at The Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen and raising funds for the Tunkhannock Area Golf Team and Lake Carey Welfare Association. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing golf in the Thursday night league at Shadowbrook, traveling with her husband, riding her motorcycle and winters in Florida.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her stepfather, Gideon Brotzman; special Aunt Leola Steele; brothers, Dean, Bruce and Harland Button.
She is survived by her husband, Don Gavek; children, Timothy and his wife Becky of Sayre, PA and Lisa Kmieciak and her husband Mike of Tunkhannock, PA; four grandchildren, Jacob and Jenneane Burkhart, Joshua and Caleb Kmieciak; six great grandchildren; Makinley, Landon, Delaney, Quinnlyn, Brydon, and Camdon; stepmother, Charlotte Button; sisters, Bonnie (Wayne) McCain, Debbie (Ed) Kintner, Jackie (Shari) Corby; brother, Terry (Ozzie) Button; several nieces and nephews.
At Nancy’s request there will be no public services, however, a Celebration of Life will be planned and take place in the future.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Nancy’s name to one of the following organizations: Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen, Tunkhannock; Interfaith Friends, Tunkhannock or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Moosic.
