Michael Bakaysa Jr, of Dallas PA passed away Monday March 12th at the Hospice Unit Geisinger South in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Taylor, PA he was a son of the late Michael and Mary Fedor Bakaysa Sr.
Michael was a Navy veteran serving from July 1943- March 1946 having served in WW II and in Okinawa He received Pacific Theater Ribbon 1 Star, American Theater Ribbon, and Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement he worked in the construction industry. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Civilian Construction Corps and a member of Construction Local 168.
He was a dedicated husband and father; he enjoyed conserving the environment, farming, construction, love of animals and his patriotic duty to the United States of America.
He was preceded in death by his wife Julia Vorozilchak Bakaysa, daughter Judith Anne Walton and sisters Mary Beadle. Verna Peck, Margaret Holmes, Helen Kristoff, and Elizabeth Gaughan.
He is survived by his son Michael Bakaysa III, brothers John Bakaysa of Taylor and Andrew Bakaysa of Florida, niece Dr. Kimberly Levin of Glenmoore PA, and great-granddaughter Karmen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 15th from the Church of the Nativity BVM, Tunkhannock. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the mass. Interment will be in St. Michaels Cemetery, Starkville, PA. Arrangements by the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the True Friends Animal Welfare Center, Rt 706 & 29, Montrose, PA 18801.
