Marilyn W. Pugh, 85, of Tunkhannock, died March 2, 2023 at her home.
Marilyn was born January 6, 1938 in Rochester, NY. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Evelyn (Stemples) Wittmer.
She married Wayne Pugh on August 5, 1961 and they were true partners for 54 years. Marilyn graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School and then went on to graduate from Mansfield College with a BS in Elementary Education. Her teaching career began in Wyalusing for one year then she taught in Tunkhannock for 40 years after that.
Marilyn Pugh was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother (Grammy) as well as a friend to many. One of her gifts was hospitality as she made everyone she came in contact with feel special and cared about. Marilyn, aka Mrs. Pugh to countless students of multiple generations, was a beloved teacher who helped shape many young lives and made the transition of going to kindergarten both fun and memorable. Many former students would recognize her when they would see her around town and they always had a memory to share. She was also "famous" for reading her rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to Roslund Elementary School each year and was even asked back after retirement.
Besides school, she also loved the church. She was a longtime active member of Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon and an elder along with being the Chair of the Christian Education Committee. She also hosted several bible studies and women's groups.
She is survived by daughter, Melanie Pugh, Tunkhannock, son Jeffrey and wife, Margaret of West Norriton, PA; and two grandsons: Benjamin Kalinsky and Colin Pugh.
Family and friends are invited to attend Marilyn’s funeral services which will be held on Thursday March 9, 2023 at 10:00 AM from the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, 53 Putnam Street, Tunkhannock, PA with Pastor David Poland and Pastor Leslie Bullock presiding.
