Leslie Leroy Lord (Lee), 79, of Queens, NY passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 22, 2024 at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, NY. Lee grew up in Nicholson, PA but had lived in New York City for the past 40 years always in touch with friends and family here and coming "home" several times a year cherishing all those great childhood memories and making new ones with all the extended families.
Born on January 29, 1945, in Centralia, PA, he is the son of the late Leslie and Martha (Mourey) Lord of Nicholson, PA.
Leslie proudly served his country in the United States Army stationed in both the United States and in Korea. Upon returning to the United States, he finished his career stationed in New York City in the administration department. Lee was the recipient of many awards during his tenue in the military.
He graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School in 1964 and later obtained a degree in business from Broome Tech before entering the military and embarking on a lifelong relationship with New York City. He developed deep life long friends and extended family there. (way too many to list!!! But you know who you are!)
He worked at Mt. Airy Lodge and held many positions at CBS and NBC in New York City. Additionally, Lee ventured into entrepreneurship by co-owning a restaurant for many years, "A Stray Café" which was well known on Horatio Street in NYC.
As we, his family, write this there are things about Lee that were his passion. He had a love of movies, history, books, and constantly just enjoying people and animals. There wasn't a cat or dog that he didn't like and made a point to support all animal causes. His family and friends were his pride and daily interaction to be sure all were okay and his computer skills kept many a person in touch with today's technology. Lee supported and belonged to local historical societies in Wyoming County. One of his proudest moments recently was being able to be part of Carly Saranchuk's (cousin) entry to and enlistment into the United States Navy and seeing her off last August from Syracuse.
Lee is survived by many friends all over the world as he traveled extensively as well as his best friends in NYC, his cousins and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM from the Nicholson Cemetery, Harding Ave, Nicholson, PA with full military honors.
Any memorial contributions can be made to Lee's local favorite spot whenever home - The Meshoppen Cat Rescue, 9883 SR 6 W, Meshoppen, PA 18630.
Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
We, the family, shall miss you my cousin and all your help during family gatherings, holidays, midnight chats, and remembering EVERY single birthday or anniversary with your phone call. Love you always! Alberta and Joe Gozikowski and entire family and our friends, Welly and Sandy Lord and family, Sandy (Lord) Chambers and husband Gordon, Juanita Lord Pandich and family, and many others too numerous to mention across many states and on Facebook. As Lee would say to you - be kind, stay close to your family, be respectful, and have a coffee at midnight just because...
