Leonard J. Pallis Sr., 92, a resident of Tunkhannock Methodist Home died on Sunday, February 24th. Len was born Hanover Township on January 3, 1921 son of the Late Joseph and Edna Pallis. He was a graduate of Hanover High School and a graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College. He served proudly during World War II. Len graduated from Eckles College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and operated his funeral home in Plymouth for forty years. Len owned and operated the Union Café in Ashley for 15 years and the Hour Glass in Kingston for 5 years. He was steward of Hanover Township VFW Post 5267 and Hanover Township American Legion Post 609. He was past president of the Taurus Club. From 1969 to 1990 he was the National Service Officer of Amvets at the V.A. Center in Wilkes-Barre for 20 years. Len served 8 years as president and 5 years as vice-president of the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, Pennsylvania where he traveled once every three months for fourteen years. He was admitted to the Soldiers and Sailors Home Hall of Fame on June 14, 2007. For 17 years, Len served part-Time as the Wyoming County Director of Veterans Affairs. He was also the Wyoming County representative of the Bureau of the ageing. A member of the Mehoopany VFW, Black Walnut American Legion Post 510, Disabled Veterans, Fall Loins Club and a Life Member of AMVETS. Len was preceded in death by the special person on his life, his cherished wife of 62 years Mary Dugan Pallis, grandson Joseph Pallis, Surviving are his sons and daughter in laws Leonard J. and Mary Ann Pallis of Harvey’s Lake, Jere and Linda Pallis of Lake Cary, Grandchildren Michelle, Tara, Carrie, Fred and Lea Ann and 6 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock on Thursday from 5 to 7. Interment will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover, Pa. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Black Walnut American Post 510, Black Walnut River Road 1, Laceyville, Pa. 18623.
