Joy Singer, 68, of Springville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 10, 2010 after a long illness.
Born in Kingston, PA on March 4, 1942, she was the daughter of Warren Weaver âBarneyâ Singer II and Naomi Larish Singer.
She was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School and Keystone College. She retired in 2008 after 21 years of service to the Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital, where she worked as a Clinic Clerk. She believed in our country and in those who worked in its defense. She dedicated her life to âher Veteransâ. They meant the world to her and she treated them as her own. Joy found reading to be one of her most favorite pastimes. She was an avid collector of cookbooks of all kinds. She enjoyed reading about Military History as well as the history and times of the old west.
She was an active member of the Lake Carey Volunteer Fire Company for 28 years having served terms as secretary, treasurer, and on the board of trustees. She was a DOH certified First Responder.
She is survived by her brother, Warren âBarneyâ Singer, III and his wife Beverly Corby Singer, Rome, PA; her son, Robert Sickler & wife Leigh Rendle Sickler, Springville, PA; her daughter, Naomi Sickler, Victor, NY; grandson, ABF3 Justin W. Sickler, Yokasuka, Japan; nieces, Jennifer Singer, Ulster, PA; Sue Singer Lipsey & husband John Lipsey, Berwick, PA; great nieces, Blythe Hemmerly, Ulster; Peyton Lipsey, Berwick; adopted grandson, Jay Druss; and her favorite Dalmatian, Nosey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 14 at 10 am from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W Tioga St, Tunkhannock, Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm.
