John A. Kobylski Sr. 91, of Tunkhannock died Sunday August 24th at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Cecelia Wiernusz Kobylski.
He was born in Kingston on March 8, 1923 son of the late Michael and Antoinette Holka Kobylski.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School. He then served for the US Army in WWII. After being honorably discharged he returned home and was associated with the family business, Hyland Dairy, before working as a maximum security guard at Graterford Prison. Before retiring in 1986 he was employed by Penn Dot on the bridge crew and later as a dispatcher.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward, Frank, Thomas, and Michael Kobylski and sisters Helen Chocallo and Ann Wiernusz.
He is survived by daughters Susan and husband Robert Smith, of Jenkins Twp., Kathryn and husband Michael Purcell, of Jenkins Twp, sons John Jr. and Richard Kobylski, both of Factoryville. He is also survived by grandchildren Nathaniel Smith, Megan, Meredith, and Marin Purcell.
He is also survived by sisters, Mary Dzieciol, Kingston; Dorothy Fellin, Shepton; Irene Wiernusz, Tunkhannock.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM at the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock interment will be in Pieta Cemetery. Viewing will be Private. Arrangements by Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc. 73 West Tioga St. Tunkhannock, Pa.
