Gilbert L. Lawrence, 74, of East Lemon, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie (Rutledge) Lawrence. Gilbert was born on August 24, 1950 in Johnson City, NY and is the son of the late Norman and Jean Lawrence.

Gilbert enlisted in the Army at age 17 where he served for 3 years, which included several months in Germany. After being discharged from the Army, Gilbert and Connie got married in 1972. He then started attending night school for auto body repair. They were raised in Wayne County, then moved to Wyoming County, where they settled and never left. Gilbert retired from Abington Manor Nursing Home as maintenance supervisor.

Gilbert was a member of the Osterhout Bible Church and served as deacon, song leader, and adult Bible teacher. He was also a proud member of the local Barbershopper's. Deer hunting was a big part of his life and he had the privilege of teaching the love of hunting to his sons. His favorite pastime was "tinkering" in his garage either building or fixing things. However, the most joy he got out of life was his grandchildren, who called him "Pop".
