Gerald W. Marish Died Sunday, February 2nd, at Regional Hospital in Scranton after a lengthy illness. He was born in Scranton, PA on November 9, 1957. He was the son of the late Sally Matylewicz Palmer and the late Milton Jeff Marish.
Jerry grew up on the Matylewicz farm in Lake Winola with his mom, grandparents (Adam & Helen Matylewicz), his 6 uncles and 2 aunts.
He graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School in 1976 and joined the U. S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany for 8 years. Upon his return to the United States, he eventually found his way back to PA. He attended the University of Maryland and Keystone College. He was employed as a supervisor at Catholic Social Services, Scranton, PA for the last 23 years a job he truly loved.
He also loved his wife, Janet, his family, friends, and his dog, Boris. Jerry was an avid gardener and enjoyed cheering on his New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers.
He was also preceded in death by his step-father Jack Palmer and his grandparents and many beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Janet Schmidt Marish of Clarks Summit, step-mother, Ruth Marish of Clarksville, TN, brother John Palmer ( and Sandra) of Lake Winola, sisters Colleen Ell (and David) of Tunkhannock, Stephanie Jones (and David), of Lake Winola, Uncle Bob & Aunt Barb Matylewicz, Aunt Thelma Shebby, his Shebby cousins who were like siblings to him (Lenny, Lynore, Janet, Eileen, Randy, and Philip), his in-laws and many other special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday February 7th from St Mary of the Lake, Lake Winola, PA. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church. The family will receive friends on Thursday February 6th from 5:30 to 8 pm at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.
