Eleanor Sturman

Eleanor Louise Sturman, 94, of Tunkhannock passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 in the same home where she was born and lived her entire life. She was the 3rd generation to live in the Slocum Avenue Jennings homestead.

Born on October 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Work Sturman and Susan Jennings Sturman.

Eleanor was a graduate of Tunkhannock Area School District and furthered her studies at Mansfield University, earning her degree in Home Economics in 1953. Her impressive career spanned 36 years, during which she taught home economics in the Blue Ridge School District.

She was a proud member of the Eastern Star Chapter #74 and actively participated in several professional organizations, including the PSEA, NEA and the Blue Ridge Education Association, as well as the PSAR Retired Teachers Association and the Tunkhannock Women's Club. Her contributions to these organizations and to education in general have left an indelible mark on many lives.

She had a passion for golf, participating in numerous golf Elderhostels, and enjoyed sewing in her leisure time. An avid traveler, Eleanor, with her sister Bertha May, explored every continent except Antarctica, embracing opportunities to learn about and experience diverse cultures throughout her life.

Eleanor was an active member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, where she participated in numerous activities throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Bertha May Sturman.

Friends are invited to attend Eleanor's funeral service which will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 5:00 PM from the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, 4 Church Street, Tunkhannock with Reverend Tenny Hutchinson presiding. Interment will be held privately in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.

A visitation will be held at the church from 4:00 PM until the time of service on Wednesday.
