Dory J. Evans, of Bridge Street, Tunkhannock, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 15th. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kim Dymond-Evans, and daughter and grandson, Sheri Evans Dailey and Damian Dailey. He is also survived by his niece and goddaughter, Raven Evans.
Dory was born August 16th, 1951 in Trenton, NJ, the son of Dory D and Helen Trimble Evans. His older sister, Sandra Evans, lives in Levittown, PA. He was predeceased by his two younger brothers, George A. Evans and William W. Evans, as well as his nephew, William P. Evans.
Dory found pure joy in the game of baseball and spent his youth and adulthood playing the game. At the age of 16, he was inducted into the Babe Ruth League Hall of Fame and was presented the award by Brookes Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles. When he could no longer play himself, his joy continued as he watched his grandson, Damian, develop the same passion and love of baseball. Some of the happiest moments of Doryâs life were spent with his daughter Sheri watching Damian play.
In addition to baseball, Dory enjoyed surf fishing, English darts, golf, painting, and playing the guitar. He was a talented artist and craftsman and has left us many beautiful pieces to enjoy. Dory previously owned and operated his own business, DJ Evans Construction, in the Tunkhannock area. He was a loyal friend, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his dog, Jaffa, and spent many days enjoying their walks together.
His extend family includes sisters-in-law Diane Shatin, Melissa Baker (and son, Ira), Pat Lawrence (Paul), and Gail Panetti (Gerry), along with several aunts and cousins in the Levittown area.
A memorial service to honor his life and the man we loved was held on Sunday, December 18th with services provided by Sheldon-Kukuchka.
