Doris Cross Williams, 87, of Dunmore, PA died Monday evening at Abington Manor. She was the widow of T. Eldred Williams who died in 2001.
Born in Dunmore, daughter of H. Milton and Alice Schoonover Cross, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Scranton Lackawanna College. Prior to her marriage she was employed by the Hahnemann Hospital, now CMC , in Scranton. When Tyler Memorial Hospital opened in Meshoppen in 1948 she was the first and only office employee. In 1950 she left Tyler Memorial for health reasons, returning a few years later as Record Librarian. She filled many administrative positions over the years and at her retirement was secretary to the CE0, John Ireland.
Prior to her marriage she was a member of the Dunmore Presbyterian Church. Following her marriage she was a member of the Lynn Methodist Church until it was closed.
Doris loved animals, gardening and caring for her lawn. She was a loyal friend to those she gave that honor and will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.
Surviving are her brother John M. Cross and wife, Joan F. of Lake Winola; niece Janet Williams and husband, Alan, of Bedford, TX; two nephews, Jeffrey Williams of Phoenix, AZ and David W. Cross and wife, Kristen of Cave Creek , AZ; grand nieces and grand nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16 at 11:30 AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock with Rev. Kenneth H. Forbes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Lynn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 S.
