Donald (Tilford) Mills passed away peacefully, in the early morning, on Monday, July 19th, 2021.
He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey to the late Martha (Casner) Mills & Frederick Mills on September 7th, 1929.
He attended High School in Lebanon, New Jersey and Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, New Jersey, and afterwards entered and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952.
Donald married Vivian Poyant, originally from New Bedford, MA, in 1952, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in New Bedford, MA.
Five years later, Donald and Vivian moved to Pittstown, NJ, where they raised their family of five (5) children. In 1976 they moved to Lake Worth, FL, and Donald worked for the City of Lake Worth, Palm Beach County.
In 1985 they built a log home in Nicholson, PA, and had lived there for almost 35 years, until Vivian's passing in March of 2018. They were married for 67 years. At which time, Donald moved to and resided at The Gardens at Tunkhannock Nursing Home, Tunkhannock, PA until the time of his death.
He was the last surviving brother of his siblings, Robert Mills, Betty (Mills) Andrews, Frederick Mills, & Marjorie Mills, and loving father, uncle, grandfather & great grandfather to his five (5) surviving children: Donna Mills Gold of Nicholson, PA; Jeffrey Mills & his wife Donna of Stroudsburg, PA; Shelley Mills Farley & her husband Jeffrey of Washington, NJ; Daniel Mills of Nicholson, PA; and Timothy Mills & his wife Donna of Easton, PA. His three (3) surviving nieces are: Susan Poyant of New Bedford, MA; Joanne Andrews Hamilton & Mary Jane Andrews of West Palm Beach, FL; the late Jeannie Andrews Van Ess; and his nephew, the late Craig Mills. His six (6) grandchildren are: Lara Gold McGuinness & her husband Craig; David Gold & his wife Rachel; Aric Mills & his wife Bethany; April Stanley; Willard Farley; and the late Brandon Mills. His five (5) great-grandchildren are Mallory, Jolene, & Christian Gold; and Hazel & Sparrow Mills.
Family and friends are invited to attend Donald’s memorial service which will be held on Sunday, July 25th, 2021 at 2:30 PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 West Tioga Street, Tunkhannock, PA.
