Donald W. Casterline died on Wednesday, July 20 at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, where he had been a resident since 1983. Don was born in Kingston on May 18, 1928 son of the late Stewart and Ida Blaine Casterline. He graduated from Kingston Township High School in 1946 and moved to Tunkhannock in 1949.
While in Tunkhannock, he was employed by the Tunkhannock Lumber Company, the R.O. Farr Lumber Company and Turrell Motors. He also worked for Arey Lumber Company in Wysox, before being hired by Penelec in 1963. In 1970, he was transferred by Penelec to Bradford, where he lived until 1981. Following an illness, he spent the better part of thirty years in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Don was very active in the community of Tunkhannock, which he loved dearly. He was proud to be involved with the Triton Hose Company, serving as Fire Chief, prior to his employment in Wysox. He was one of the founding fathers of the Tunkhannock Booster Club, serving as President in 1966. He coached the Turrell Motors Little League team and in 1956 he took a Roosevelt Trail All-Star team to the state finals in Williamsport. He enjoyed bowling at Shadow Brook Lanes, playing Sunday baseball for Bowmanâs Creek in the Bi-County League and rooting for his beloved Cleveland Indians and Browns. He was a 50 years member of Temple Lodge # 248 F&AM of Tunkhannock, Couders Port Consistory and other Masonic organizations.
Surviving is his wife Donna Grose Casterline of Hinsdale, NY. Sons and their wifeâs, Stew and Jean Casterline of Naples Florida, Donald (Luke) and Eileen (Sam) Casterline of Tunkhannock. Step daughter Tammy Balewski and Husband Joe of Tunkhannock, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren
Graveside interment services will be held on Monday at 10 am in Woodlawn Cemetery, Dallas with Pastor Lori Robinson of the Eatonville United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on August 13, 2011 at 2 PM from Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 West Tioga St., Tunkhannock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Triton Hose Company, 116 W.
