Carol Lee Gilpin, 80, of Tunkhannock, was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James Gilpin.
Born on August 29, 1944 in Centermoreland, she is the daughter of the late Loren and Nona (Winters) Schoonover.
She was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, class of 1962. Carol's career spanned over two decades at the Falls dress factory, where she worked diligently until her retirement. She also devoted 30 years to driving a van for special needs children from Tunkhannock and Dallas School Districts, providing transportation to school and work. Her kindness and commitment left a profound impact on the children she served, many of whom maintained contact with her long after they had left her care.
Carol embraced a life full of adventures; she loved traveling, especially in support of her children's military careers, ready to visit the next duty station, and to countless boy scout meetings, sons' baseball and football games, as well as family camping trips, having visited nearly every state across the United States. Her love for her family was not just a feeling but a way of life.
Carol also took pride in her community involvement. She was an active member of the Centermoreland Baptist Church in her youth and a member of the Northmoreland Township Fire Company, which is her beloved extended family. Besides her family, bingo was the love of her life. She took great joy in playing bingo with family and dear friends and was an enthusiastic member in the Clarks Summit Ladies League bowling group, where she formed lasting relationships.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Kevin Gilpin and fiancé Michelle, James Gilpin and wife Kelly; sisters, Shirley Grindall, Beverly Orlando, Judy Gudman; brothers, Terry Schoonover and Dennis Schoonover; granddaughters, Caleigh and Charlotte Gilpin; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Jack Schoonover.
Private service by the family only.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carol's memory to the Northmoreland Township Volunteer Fire Company, 1618 Demunds Rd., Dallas, PA 18612.
