Anthony Nicholas DeLeo, 75, of Tunkhannock passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Jefferson Methodist Hospital, Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Holly (Berezow) DeLeo.
Born on May 15, 1949 in Scranton, he is the son of the late Anthony and Louise (Berardelli) DeLeo.
Tony graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1967. Furthering his academic pursuits, he graduated from Penn State University in 1971 with a degree in Accounting, later earning his CPA from DePaul University in Chicago in 1983 and Master of Business Administration in 1984.
Tony led a remarkable life filled with dedication and service. In the early 1970s, he joined the Green Berets and demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, eventually achieving the rank of Major in the Army Special Forces. As well as retiring from the Army reserves, he continued his commitment to public service by working for the FBI and later for the United States Agency for International Development, enforcement, until his retirement in 1990.
Tony was actively involved in various organizations. He served as a Past Master for the Mason Blue Lodge, Nicholson Chapter and as a member of the Irem Shrine Divan for two years. Additionally, he held positions as Commander for notable organizations such as the American Legion, VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), Tunkhannock chapter, and this year as Worthy Patron for the Order of the Eastern Stars Chapter Martha Washington #3.
In his leisure time, Tony found joy in hunting, fishing, working around the house and with his beloved Rottweilers and German Shepherds, and giving back to his community through volunteering at the Factoryville Sportsman's Club and with the Irem Oriental Band.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by brothers, Nicholas DeLeo and wife Donna, Louis DeLeo and wife Cindy, Robert DeLeo; his beloved niece and nephews.
He is preceded in death by sister, Mary Grace Fresco.
Family and friends are invited to attend Tony's funeral service with full military honors which will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM from the funeral home.
