Nicole âNikkiâ Lynn Boice, 30 Hummelstown, PA ( formally of Tunkhannock), peacefully left this earth and received her angel wings on April 25, 2010 while at home. She was born on October 19, 1979, Tunkhannock, to Stephen and Yvonne Boice. She was a 1998 graduate of Wyalusing Valley Jr/Sr High School, Wyalusing, PA as a member of the National Honors Society. She went on to attend Kutztown University and graduated with a Bachelorâs of Science Degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in music. She was, most recently, a grad student at Temple University for Social Work. Nikki loved to play her violin in the elementary, high school, and college orchestraâs. She also took that love, of the violin, to different church programs.
Nikki is survived by her parents, Yvonne Boice and John Borawski, Tunkhannock and Stephen and Martha Boice, Sugar Run; a brother Jeff Boice and Patricia Whitlock-Jenningsville; a sister Brenda and Andy Everett-Sugar Run; two step sisters Ladonna and Don Martin-Shickshinney; Theresa Wehner-Colorado; and one step brother Kenny and Zabrina Valentine-Laceyville. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Hettie Tinna-Wyalusing; Aunts and Uncleâs-Diane and Spud Morrison, Wendy and Lynn Bloom, Kenneth and Wendy Tinna, Shirley and Philip Goodwin, Marsha and Chuck Henning, Jim Tinna, LuAnn and Carl Gowin, Harold and Gail Tinna, Connie and Randy Benscoter, Carol Sharts, & Mike Goodwin. Step aunts and uncles-Charles and Joyce Fassett, Richard and Ruth Fassett, Iva Fassett, Clifford and Carol Fassett, William and Mary Walter, Bill and Mary Fassett, Pearl and Elisa Fassett, David and Margaret Fassett, Edward and Lynn Fassett, Amy and Joe Lott, Tony Maddox and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Nikki sadly leaves behind her beloved Guinea Pigs-Lucy, Sophie, and Smudge. Which whom she had certified as therapy pets for the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey, PA.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Oliver and Marie Boice, maternal grandfather Harold âBimâ Tinna, aunts Sharon Boice Serbel, Penny Sue Tinna, cousin Denise Lynn Tinna and step grandmothers Betsy Boice and Ella Cole.
Nikki was a proud supporter of several charitable organizations: The American Heart Association, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The Arthritis Foundation, The American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research and the Ronald McDonald House just to name a few. She also supported these organizations by participating in marathons in Ireland and Hawaii, along with participating in local runs and walks to include a heart walk in Harrisburg and Susan G. Komen âRace for the Cureâ in Scranton. Nikki was a huge advocate for The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) and her most recent passion was lobbying in Washington D.C. for the Gail R. Schoenbach F.R.E.E.D (For the Recovery and Elimination of Eating Disorders) foundation side by side with Representative Patrick Kennedy.
Nikki had a smile and heart that was so big, she touched the lives of all her knew her. She will be forever missed by all and will always be in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 30, 2010 at 4pm at the Mehoopany Methodist Church. Internment will be held at the Union Hill Cemetery-Mehoopany. Friends and family may call at the church from 1pm until the time of the service.
